Hope at the End of the World: Grassroots Climate Solutions

“When a [community] builds atop a fault line, do you blame its walls when they inevitably crush the people inside? No; you blame whoever was stupid enough to think they could defy the laws of nature forever. Well, some worlds are built on a fault line of pain, held up by nightmares. Don’t lament when those worlds fall. Rage that they were built doomed in the first place.” - N.K. Jemisin, The Stone SkyRecord CO2 levels, increasingly frequent natural disasters, growing inequality, the rise of the white power movement and a resurgence of progressive activism are all trends that the world as we know it is on the precipice of fundamental change. What can we do to tip the balance toward a better world at a time when it feels that the world is caving in? Join us for a panel discussion with grassroots leaders from around the country who are working on solutions in their community. Kheprw Institute is a member of the Climate Justice Alliance (CJA) which is a national alliance advancing Just Transition from extreme energy to locally rooted economies in communities across the US. Kheprw will be going to Albuquerque to participate in the Living our Power Member convening of CJA. In addition to strategizing and charting the direction of our work as an alliance into the future, part of Living Our Power is engaging in strong self- governance. The Member Convening is being hosted by Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) and will bring together 200 members, allies, and ecosystem partners to share the impact of a Just Transition in sectors such as energy, food sovereignty, zero-waste, housing, public transit, community land, water, and natural ecosystems stewardship because it will take all of us to make the impact we need for a radical shift. We will be reporting back from the convening about the important conversations that were had as well discuss solutions different communities are implementing.
