      Tenth Annual Elvis Birthday Bash

On January 11th, Elvis fans from around Central Indiana will gather at Radio Radio to celebrate the music of the “King of Rock and Roll.” “If the King were still alive, he’d be turning 81. We've put this showcase on every January for 10 years, celebrating the diversity of his music. We've had bluegrass, R&B, punk and zydeco. Every genre of music re-interpreting the music of the king. This year we wanted to go back to Elvis earliest Sun Records roots” said Nuvo cartoonist and show promoter Wayne Bertsch “ My wife and I saw the stage play of the Million Dollar Quartet and thought how cool it would be to base this years Elvis Birthday Bash around that.” The Million Dollar Quartet is the name of a classic photo that captured the legendary day that a Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis were all in the Sun Records studio at the same time. ToeKnee Tea-Carl Perkins: ToeKnee plays a raucous street wise blues that has all the grit and edginess of his old punk band Hate the Drake. He gets so much sound out of beat up guitar and stomp box it's hard to believe that he's doing it all himself. His single "Elkhart County Jail" is the type of song that would've been right at home on Sun Records and I'm thrilled to hear what he does with Carl Perkins rockabilly catalogue. Jakis Strakis-Jerry Lee Lewis: Jakis is a gifted keyboard player. Every band he's in whether it's The Innocent Boys or Veseria he immediately makes that band better. He Plays solo around town at the Gaslight Inn and the Melody Inn but you've never gotten to hear him like this channeling Jerry Lee Lewis. This should be a real treat. Hero Jr.- Johnny Cash: Hero Jr did the Elvis Birthday Bash a few years ago and have just exploded in the time since then. They've been proving their Rock n Roll bonafides by touring ceaselessly around the Midwest and east coast, Seeing them do a set peppered with their version of Johnny Cash Covers should be a once in a lifetime event that no Hero Jr Fan or Johnny Cash fan would dare miss. Bigger than Elvis- Elvis Presley: are well know to Indiana Rockabilly fans they've been playing the hot, rockin’ rhythm and blues sound that made the Sun Records music so dangerous in the minds of 1950’s white America. The fact that they feature genuine rockstars like Danny (Roadkill) Thompson formerly of the Sloppy Seconds and Tufty Clough (Zero Boys & Toxic Reasons) only adds to their coolness factor.
