The Indiana Album: Unearthing Indiana’s Past in Grandma’s Attic

Many of Indiana's most important historic images aren't in museums—they're in the attics, basements, and closets of houses across the state. One-of-a-kind photographs of ancestors' homes, grandpa's hardware, buildings under construction, or everyday life appear regularly on social media nostalgia pages and genealogy sites but are not of high-enough quality to publish and nearly impossible to search. Worried about the loss of this heritage, the non-profit Indiana Album formed to try to save such photos, making high-resolution scans of images, cataloging them and capturing the stories behind them. On September 5, Indiana Album’s Founding Director Joan Hostetler will share the most interesting and insightful images discovered, focusing on Indiana's built environment, at a talk at Indiana Landmarks Center, “The Indiana Album: Unearthing Indiana’s Past in Grandma’s Attic.” Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with a cash bar and light refreshments available; talk begins at 6 p.m.
