      EVENT DETAILS
Songs of Revolution, part of the Spirit & Place Festival

Music and revolution have a long history together. Join us as we sing together to explore this history and examine how “songs of revolution” have changed over time. Featured artists and presenters include Indy Justice Choir, David Anderson Hooker, Spiritual Gangsters, Edison School for the Arts, Douglas Peach, and Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters.Beginning with Negro spirituals and moving along to music from the Civil Rights Movement and ending with hip-hop, this event mixes group singing, performances, and short historical presentations. We’ll explore everything from the revolutionary acts of defiance by enslaved men and women singing songs of justice to how artists in rural South Carolina are using hip-hop to combat gentrification and displacement. Join us as there will be plenty of opportunities for community singing and introductions to some of Indy’s top musical talent.   Doors open 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. We will begin with some social time and light snacks from 6 to 6:30 pm with the activities beginning at 6:30 pm.  PRESENTED BY  All317HipHop, Indy Justice Choir, and The Church Within ABOUT SPIRIT & PLACE The Spirit & Place Festival (Nov. 1 - 10) celebrates the powerful role the arts, humanities, and religion plan in community life.
